Method
A farm run like a data problem.
BMD Farms exists because the technology side of this company kept running into the same thing: good decisions need records, and most growing operations don't keep them. So we took the discipline we apply to data work and pointed it at a field.
The approach is not complicated. Establish a baseline. Change one thing at a time. Record inputs, timings, weather and outcomes against each plot. Compare seasons honestly, including the ones that went badly. Improve yield on evidence rather than on habit or on whatever the last input salesman said.
What comes out of that is twofold: produce, and a documented methodology that other growers can actually use — because it was tested on a working farm with real constraints, not modelled on paper.
What the record-keeping covers
- Plot-level input logs — seed, fertiliser, treatment, labour hours
- Planting and harvest timings against local rainfall
- Yield per plot, season on season
- Cost per unit produced, so a yield gain that costs more than it returns gets caught
